Lynzee Klingman, ACE

Born 1943

Lynzee Klingman, ACE started by editing documentaries, including Hearts and Minds and In the Year of the Pig. She was then hired by Miloš Forman for One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, for which she got an Oscar nomination and won a BAFTA Award. Klingman has credits on thirty feature films, including several directed by Jodie Foster (Little Man Tate) and Danny DeVito’s The War of the Roses.

“At that time I would go around to different editorial houses, I had a list from the phone book, and they would say, ‘Well we don’t hire women! ‘cuz you can’t carry a lot of cans, because we don’t wanna have to watch our language, la, la, la.’ And, although there were women working in the industry, I never ran into them, nobody ever introduced me or told me about them, and I did have – for maybe three years – I didn’t meet any women doing what I was doing.”
